
Indian River is home to the king of Simmental and Hereford breeds
INDIAN RIVER — Juanita and Billy Elmhirst have become legends at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. This year their Herefords and Simmentals stood butt to butt in the show barn, and the space between them soon became dubbed "banner alley."
For the eighth year in a row, Elmhirst was named Hereford premier breeder, and has won the coveted banner the last nine out of 10 years.
For the first time, Juanita and Billy were named premier breeder for the Simmental breed. The Herefords are managed by Billy and his father Grant, while the Simmentals are managed by Juanita and Billy.
"This (show cattle) is our business," explains Billy. "People recognize us and know we are close to the top."

In the Hereford class, among 190 entries, they won reserve grand champion bull, breeders’ herd, premier breeder and premier exhibitor.
In the Simmental class, among 120 entries, Juanita and Billy won for champion bull calf and grand champion bull, Tomahawk, and were awarded premier breeder, breeder
