Bonnett beats Kamenz in tight OFA election

TORONTO — Ontario Federation of Agriculture president Ron Bonnett won a third term to lead Ontario's largest farm lobby organization. The Algoma cow-calf operator and former dairy farmer, near Sault Ste. Marie, beat out Spencerville hog farmer Geri Kamenz by 25 votes.

Bonnett received 166 votes, Kamenz got 141.

Kamenz will retain his position as vice-president, along with Paul Mistele, who produces broiler chickens in Elgin County.

The OFA executive committee of four members includes two re-elected eastern Ontario representatives. They are Terry Otto, a cash crop farmer from Metcalfe (officially part of the city of Ottawa), and Bette Jean Crews, a market gardener and apple grower, near Trenton, in Northumberland County.

The annual election was held in Toronto on November 21.
