New farm leader He has been working towards this goal for 10 years. On November 20, Spencerville hog, beef and crop farmer, Geri Kamenz, 46, was elected president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, the first president east of Toronto since Wolfe Island’s Bridget Pyke in the late 1980s. Kamenz received 57.5 per cent (184 of 320) of delegate votes, defeating Elgin County’s Paul Mistele. Kamenz had served three terms as vice-president and has been involved in Ontario’s largest farm lobby group since 1982. The 70-year old organization, often referred to as "the only game in town" had begun to appear old and tired but with a restructuring process underway, Kamenz at the helm and a surprising 2.5 per cent spike in memberships this year, the new signs point to energy and optimism. Job one is a unified voice, Kamenz said. "My first priority is to meet with the commodity board leaders and say, ‘where is that common ground that we can all agree on.’"
