Awards and scholarships to win

Get applications in soon, deadlines are early for some stewardship and innovation honours

 

The awards season is off to a great start with a host of opportunities to celebrate farming innovation. Farmers Forum has compiled a list of some of the awards with looming deadlines.

 

Jersey Canada Youth of Distinction Award

Youth aged 18 to 25 are eligible for the youth distinction award, given annually to community-minded leaders who have significant involvement with Jersey cattle. A reference letter is required. For more information, call 519-821-1020.

Tri-Valley Conservation Awards of Excellence

Conservation authorities in the Mississippi, Rideau and South Nation river valleys are looking for ordinary people who have voluntarily undertaken extraordinary environmental projects. Awards will be given in multiple categories, including high school, community and lifetime achievement. Nomination forms are available at www.rvca.ca, www.mvca.on.ca and www.nation.on.ca.

Dairy Farm Sustainability Award

Dairy Farmers of Canada is rewarding farmers who have gone above and beyond industry sustainability standards. The winner will receive $2,000 and a trip to the DFO annual general meeting in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Three runners up will each receive $1,000. For more information, visit www.dairyfarmers.ca.

The FCC Rosemary Davis Award

The FCC Rosemary Davis Award wants to honour five women, 21 years and older, who exemplify leadership in the agricultural community. Winners will receive a trip to Boston to attend the 2012 Simmons School of Management’s premier leadership conference for women. Excellence Award for Ag Students

The Canadian Farm Business Management Council will give three students $1,000 to further their agricultural education. Application includes an essay question. Contact Nancy Pirie at Nancy.Pirie@cfbmc.com.

Nuffield Scholarships

Nuffield Canada is offering farmers the opportunity to travel the world to learn about innovative farm practices. Three scholarships of $15,000 are available for farmers with at least five years of farming or business experience, aged 30 to 45. Visit www.nuffield.ca.
