Fire kills 100 cows
CAMERON — An early morning fire destroyed a tie-stall dairy barn and 100 cows at Cameron, near Lindsay, on June 6.
The farm, operated by Larry Sims, is no longer milking cows, because the fire killed all 65 milking cows.
The barn will be rebuilt.
The fire is believed to have started in the hay mow but moved quickly through the rest of the barn, with most of the cows dying in the fire. Some of the rescued cows had to be put down later.
The glow from the blaze could be seen all the way to Fenelon Falls, Woodville and Lindsay.
The building was valued at $300,000 and the contents, which included a skid steer and a tractor, were valued at $500,000.
Four fire departments came to the scene and had the fire under control at 5:15 a.m., two-and-one-half hours after it started.
