Tractor roll-over kills machinist

ARNPRIOR - A farm equipment machinist with a passion for fixing things was killed Sunday, May 28, when the modified tractor he was driving onto a flatbed truck flipped over and landed on top of him.

Ted Brydges was trying to load the red tractor at his shop at about 9:35 a.m. at Brydges Mechanical Services at 388 Russett Dr. in McNabb-Braeside Township, just west of Arnprior, in preparation for a tractor pull in Almonte.

Police arrived after getting a call and found Bridges trapped under the tractor. The body was removed from the scene shortly after noon.

noted for his broad smile and his expertise in fixing just about anything, Brydges, 58, had operated his business for about 25 years.

"He's done a lot of work for us," said Arnprior dairy farmer Debbie Pretty - Straathof. "He's helping us out of a lot of jams."

Brydges specialized in welding and fabrication. He also did a lot of work for Rath Farm Equipment just up to road from his shop.

Brydges spent much of his free time in the summer months at tractor pulls and at the Arnprior Golf Club, where he fixed things on his own time. He was separated and has a grown son living in Toronto and a grown daughter living near Arnprior.
