83-year-old apple grower killed in tractor rollover
ALEXANDRIA — Glengarry County apple grower, Hans Seiffert, died April 24 at 2 p.m. when the 2410 HSD Kubota tractor he was driving went into a ditch and rolled over. He was pinned under the tractor. He was 83.
Glengarry OPP Constable Pete Robinson said the tractor did not have a rollover bar, which might have saved Seiffert from a fatal injury.
He was found by his wife who went looking for him to tell him lunch was ready. A neighbour phoned emergency crews who pronounced Mr. Seiffert dead at the scene.
Seiffert had a road side stand near the village of Glen Roberston, east of Alexandria, and a kiosk at the Vankleek Hill farmers market.
Tractor roll-overs are the most common causes of on-farm fatalities in Ontario and male farmers, over 65, are at highest risk of being killed in an on-farm accident.
