Who's getting the big bucks from the Ontario government?
Almost as many earning more than $100,000 as there are farms in Ontario
TORONTO — The numbers of provincial employees earning more than $100,000 a year has skyrocketed. For instance, there were 33 employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Rural Affairs earning more than $100,000 in 2007. Last year that jumped to 52 employees.
By law, wages of provincial employees earning more than $100,000 must be made public.
There were 143 employess with Ministry of Natural Resources earning more than $100,000 last year, compared with 85 in 2007. There were 161 with the Ministry of Environment, compared with 62 in 2007.
Among agricultural-related agencies funded by the province, there were 14 employees of Agricorp earning more than $100,000 last year and 27 employees with the Ontario Clean Water Agency.
In case you are wondering, there are 53,712 provincial employees earning more than $100,000 a year. While that includes politicians, physicians and principals, it also includes some police officers, firefighters and nurses. There are almost as many employees earning more than $100,000 as there are farms in the province. Ontario has 57,300 farms.
