People don't affect climate change, farmers argue
Al Gore won’t find many fans among farmers.
Despite arguments from the federal and provincial governments that human activity is causing climate change, many farmers aren’t believing it, says the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario.
A recent seminar on the issue, sponsored by the CFFO, found mixed reactions from farmers, says Jenny Denhartog, a CFFO field services associate.
"To say that there is a great deal of suspicion regarding the scientific evidence would be an understatement," said Denhartog. "Some of the farmers who attended our Policy Days are convinced that human activity has little impact on climate, and that it shows how conceited humans really are to believe that they can influence the weather."
She added: "Some went so far as to say that climate change isn’t happening, at least not to a greater extent than the ‘natural cycle’."
