WINCHESTER It was the 50
th annual calf sale on April 7, held at Hugh Fawcett Auctions, and the largest crowd in the sales history bid with energy, following a complimentary pancake breakfast provided by Eastern Breeders Inc.To celebrate the 50
th year, consignments from Master Breeder herds were featured, which made up more than one third of the total consignments. The 60 head commanded a strong average of $2,567, the second highest average in sale history.Here are the top four sales.
$7,750 paid for Glengarry Jordan Angel Amy, a Roylane Jordan-ET daughter from three Excellent dams. This fancy summer yearling heifer was consigned by Robert D. MacIntosh of Apple Hill, Ont. and purchased by Robert D. MacDonald of Dalkeith, Ont.
$7,000 was the second highest price of the day, and consigned by Ferme Gillette Inc. of Embrun, Ont. Gillette Talent Jamaica, a VG-86, two-year-old, sired by Ladino Park Talent-Imp-ET, is from the Sunnylodge Prelude Spottie family and sold to Ferme Shady Lane Swiss, of Shawville, Quebec.
$6,250 for Velthuis Goldwyn Elita from Velthuis Farms Ltd. in Osgoode, made a silky presence in the ring. The September 06 Braedale Goldwyn daughter was purchased by Robert Booth of Wisconsin, USA.
$6,200 for stylish December 06 Innwood Terrason daughter from David J. MacMillan of Alexandria, Ont.
Lochdale Terrason Tahiti was purchased by Bob Hoogenveen of Blackstock and will go on to be a 2007 4-H project in Durham County.
Eastern Ontario Holstein Clubs have been involved in this event since its origination. The profit from the sale is distributed among the nine Holstein Clubs to help finance their individual initiatives.
