Farmers worried about an early frost

OTTAWA — The Farmers Almanac is calling for an early frost this year and farmers are hoping it’s all hype.

With a short growing season and excessive rain, this year has been a frustrating one for growers in eastern and east-central Ontario.

But even Environment Canada climatologist David Phillips will admit that all long-term forecasts are questionable.

Most weather predictions are only 50% accurate, so as to whether there will be an early frost or not, farmers might as well just flip a coin.
