TRENTON — Corn and soybean growers are hoping and praying for a hot September.
"We need the month of September to be summer," said Tri-County crop advisor Larry Hutchinson. " We need to get through without any frost. The plants really shut down fast when the frost sets in."
Rain has been a headache all across Ontario. For example, around Trenton rainfall in August has been 120.5 mm, compared to 26.5 mm last year. The same area is about 100 heat untis behind last year at this time.
Meantime, some farmers are watching for the full moon on Sept. 15, as there is an old saying that when you get a full moon in September you get frost.
