Deer hunting season expands

By Sheena Bolton

ONTARIO — The deer and moose hunting season have been extended to control population, deer-vehicle collisions and crop damage.

Bancroft and Peterborough districts (covering most of east-central Ontario) have changed their seven-day late November archery-only deer season into a seven-day muzzleloader and archery season starting the first Monday after November 28.

The Kemptville district (covering most of eastern Ontario) is extending the one-week rifle, shotgun, archery and muzzleloader deer season, starting the first Monday in November, to two consecutive weeks.

Minister of Natural Resources David Ramsay made the announcement July 31, saying the deer population "is really out of control."
