The Ontario corn harvest is lagging behind last year’s 139 bushels per acre but not in eastern Ontario. It’s overflowing with corn. South Glengarry County has seen some enormous yields. Sales representative Rodney Craig, at Munro Agromart in Lancaster, says that 2007 was the best corn yield he’s seen in his 17 years in the business. Go to story

Daniel Bourbannois, of Vars, east of urban ottawa, was ready to haul 10 wagon loads full of corn to Wilmarvale Elevators on Nov. 14. That’s 80 tonnes of good quality corn, he said. He figures he harvested 180 bushels of corn per acre on 130 acres. But price softened when he last checked, "down to $125 per tonne. What happened this year is that every elevator is full so price keeps going down."
