First poop powered farm saves $1,200 per month FORESTERS FALLS — Dairy Farmer Paul Klaesi has installed what he says is the first methane digester in Ontario. His 140 Holstein cows produce the manure that fills a cement structure, in photo, which runs at a temperature of about 38 degrees C. Methane gas fills the bubble and not only provides power for his farm, but for Ontario Hydro as well. That means his power metre runs backwards, reducing his monthly bill. Klaesi hopes to shave $1,200 off the farm power bill as well as use the methane to power two houses. The Foresters Falls farmer says he needs a few more months to determine the efficiency of the digester. |
