What is your favorite
summer smell? Freshly cut hay, says Cobden Sun columnist and
Renfrew county crop farmer Maynard Vander Galien. He surveyed 26 people to
find out.
Twenty of 26 people interviewed said their favourite
smell of summer is freshly cut hay. Other favourite smells were flowers
and fields of strawberries.
Other folks’ favourite sounds included roosters
crowing before dawn, rain pattering on a tin roof, and bird calls.
Favourite sights included flowers in full bloom,
sunflowers completely open, convertibles driving by, fields of bales of
hay, the ocean, and sunsets above water.
Former beef farmer Bob Usher says the most pleasurable
activity on a farm is leaning on a rail fence and watching the cows.
