Dairy Farmer to sell farm, switch to Limo service

While Jolanda de Jong milks the family’s 40-cow Holstein herd husband Ed is running around in a Limousine.

Ed’s love affair with the Limousine all started several years ago when he had a ride in a rented Limousine at Metcalfe. "I was so thrilled with the length and beauty of the car that I had to have one," he said.

Two years ago he bought his first Limousine and began his Royalty Limousine Service with the slogan "Royalty service with a touch of class." The slogan is no empty promise. At weddings and trips to the airport he offers champagne and various food trays along with strawberries dipped in chocolate.

At weddings, the Limousine is adorned with a sign "Just Married" and the chauffeur wears a tuxedo and white gloves. He already has 25 weddings booked for next spring and summer.

The business operating between Kingston and the Quebec border has done so well that de Jong had bought a second car and is selling the farm.

"It’s all for sale, buildings, cows, quota and land," he says. He can’t do both businesses. "When a bride calls, I can’t say I can’t come because I have to make hay." And it’s the hay field where he doesn’t want to be.

He charges $550 for a four-hour stretch.
