More Funding to Retrain or exit industry.
OTTAWA — Farmers who qualified for the Canadian Farm Families Options Program last year now have until Nov. 30 to apply. As of mid-September, 55 per cent of eligible farmers had yet to send in their application.
Eligible farmers had a net family income in a three year period averaging $45,000 or less each year. The pilot program offers income to farmers while they pursue options. These farmers are encouraged to expand, exit the business, diversify, rely more on off-farm income, restructure debt, retire, scale down production, sell assets or retrain.
