METCALFE — Kyle Rivington just completed his last 4-H show taking the two top honours in dairy. He was named grand champion showman and showed the grand champion heifer.

The 22-year-old, who milks 50-head with his parents near Carp, was once described by one judge as havng the skill to show any animal. When asked how he prepares the animals for show, Rivington defered to Ashton breeder Herb Henderson, in southwest rural Ottawa.

"Ask him," says Rivington. "He’s the breeder."

Henderson, who earned his third premier breeder award at the Eastern Ontario Western-Quebec Holstein Championship in Kemptville last year, was quick to point out that it’s not a one-day job. "You work at it year round," he said.
